The ZR Series Vacuum Furnace

Heating materials used in vacuum furnaces

The heating elements of vacuum furnaces are divided into metals and nonmetals.

Metal heating elements are usually divided into two types: one is precious metals, such as molybdenum, platinum, tungsten, tantalum, etc., and the other is general metals, such as nickel-chromium heat-resistant alloy, iron-chromium aluminum alloy, molybdenum-tungsten alloy, etc.

Non-metallic heating elements include two kinds of graphite and compound. The compounds are silicon carbide, molybdenum silicide, molybdenum oxide two and so on. Silicon carbide is easy to bond and decompose at high temperature, while two molybdenum oxide softens at 1300 degrees. Only graphite has the characteristics of good machinability, high temperature resistance, good resistance to quench and heat, good plasticity, large radiation area, good resistance to thermal shock and so on, so it is suitable for making heating elements.

Vacuum furnace structure

01/

Vacuum furnace chamber
The vacuum furnace chamber is mainly divided into a stainless steel chamber, ceramic fiber chamber, molybdenum foil chamber, and graphite chamber. The maximum temperature ranges from 750°C to 2200°C.

02/

Vacuum furnace heating elements
Vacuum furnace heating elements are mainly divided into resistance wire, silicon carbon rod, molybdenum wire and rod, silicon molybdenum rod, graphite, induction coil, etc. The maximum temperature ranges from 750℃ to 2200℃.

03/

Temperature control system
The temperature control system of the vacuum furnace is mainly composed of thermocouples (temperature measurement) and temperature controllers (temperature control). It is mainly divided into PID programmable control, touch screen control, and PLC fully automatic control.

04/

Vacuum System
The vacuum system consists of vacuum valves, mechanical pumps, diffusion pumps and Roots pumps according to the required vacuum level. The maximum vacuum level is generally 7×10-3 Pa.

05/

Water cooling system
According to the size of the furnace chamber, a matching water cooling system is required to ensure that the vacuum furnace can work properly.

06/

Sealed furnace shell
The furnace shell casing must be well sealed to ensure that the designed vacuum level can be achieved.

Common types of vacuum furnaces

Resistance heating furnaces: These use electrical resistance heating elements to generate heat.

Induction heating furnaces: These use induction to generate heat in the material.

Radiation heating furnaces: These use radiation from heating elements or plasma to heat the material.

Chamber design

Vacuum furnaces can be classified based on the design of the vacuum chamber. Some common types of vacuum furnaces are

Vertical vacuum furnaces

The material is loaded into the furnace on a vertical plane.

Horizontal vacuum furnaces

The material is loaded into the furnace on a horizontal plane.

Bottom-loading vacuum furnaces

The material is loaded into the furnace from the bottom.

FAQ

Q: How Does A Vacuum Furnace System Work?

A: The vacuum system consists of mechanical pumps, molecular pumps, diffusion pumps, etc. Its core function is to extract the gas in the furnace to achieve the required vacuum degree (such as 10⁻³ to 10⁻⁶Pa) in the furnace, thereby excluding oxygen and other active gases, preventing the material from oxidation, decarburization or other chemical reactions at high temperatures, and ensuring the purity of the treatment process.

Q: How Do Vacuum Brazing And Sintering Furnaces Differ In Use?

A: Vacuum brazing furnace is mainly used for the connection of metal materials. The gap between the joints is filled with brazing material to achieve metallurgical bonding. Typical applications include the connection between turbine blades and honeycomb sealing rings of aircraft engines and the connection between copper substrates and ceramic substrates in electronic power modules. Vacuum sintering furnace is mainly used for the densification of powder materials. The powder particles are combined into a dense body through high temperature. Typical applications include the sintering of cemented carbide (WC-Co) tools and the preparation of silicon nitride ceramic bearing balls. The two focus on two different process goals: "connection" and "densification".
